Supporting loca

As a business we value the importance of community and supporting local. Some of our favourite local artisans/businesses for client and staff gifts include Urban Rituelle, Pago & Co and Wild Jannali. With the impact of COVID-19 over the last year and a half, the need to support local artisans/businesses has become even more important.

In celebration of Aussie Artisan Week, we have decided to highlight some local artisans/businesses, as well as provide you with some ideas on how you can make your home more unique using local products.

“The past 17 months have shown the importance and value of community, and our community has kept us afloat. Not only our customers, but also all of the incredible hard-working producers who we work with, or alongside, whom we sell our products at farmers’ markets and local stores.”
Butter maker and co-founder of Aussie Artisan Week, Pierre Issa

How to support local and make your house feel like home

Whether you own your own home or are renting, adding special touches can really make a place feel more like home.

Greenery

Indoor and outdoor plants and flowers can instantly lift a space. Not only do they add life, but they also clear the air and provide a healthier living environment. A bunch of flowers can put a smile on your face and brighten up a room, while indoor plants can be the perfect way to bring the outdoors in and create a calm, relaxing environment. Local florists such as Wild Jannali and Harperwood Floral Design, offer amazing floral arrangements delivered to your door, while local nursery Botanica Lane has a great mix of indoor and outdoor plants to choose from.

Artwork and homewares

Adding a few artwork pieces, carefully selected homewares and furnishings can instantly make a space feel more homely. With so many amazing affordable prints and artwork pieces available, why not add some to your home. Artwork can even be styled on sideboards and shelves or hung on removable hooks if you are renting.

A vignette; a grouping of objects such as vases, bowls, books etc can add personality and life to a space. While a throw rug, cushions and soft furnishings make any room more inviting.

For unique homewares, check out local businesses such as ur place, Cronulla Living and Kathryn Bloomer Interiors or local artisan Mona Lisa Ceramics. You could also look at Blacklist Store, Girl Meraki, We Are Mindful, Riverfolk, French for King, Lilly & Lolly or Kirsty Goodwin. Or for those looking for a timeless, bespoke working of timber, CooperStore creates custom furniture. With so much on offer you are sure to find something you love.

Lighting

Lighting plays a big part in how a room feels, adding lamps to any space will create ambience and change the feel of a room. They can also be useful to add additional lighting to rooms where there might not be enough lighting available, which is often the case in rental properties or where natural light is scarce. From bedside or sideboard lamps to floor standing and reading lamps, with so many options available why not experiment and try out a few different options.

Ways to lift a space when selling

When it comes to selling your home, creating an inviting, clutter free, home environment goes a long way. A fresh bunch of flowers, fruit bowl or freshly brewed coffee or baked goods can create an emotive connection with potential buyers and make a place feel like a home. Local coffee roaster Three Pence Roasters have a great range of consistently excellent, sustainable and ethical coffee beans and blends.

Candles, and incense are also other great ways to add a soft and pleasant fragrance and invite potential buyers in. Try local candle maker HUTWOODS who use a premium blend of 100% natural soy and coconut wax, specifically formulated for candles or Urban Rituelle.

“We’ve realised that Australians really do value Australian-made, and so we want to help people discover more local alternatives as they do their weekly shopping. We could all do with the reminder to stop a minute before we ‘add to cart’ and think about what we’re buying, where it comes from and who we’re supporting when we buy it.”
